General Summary:

The Test Engineer is responsible for review of test results comparing to known expected performance, and/or customer requirements to certify performance test to specified performance standards.  The Test Engineer is responsible for issuing corrective rework instruction for product found to be non-conforming in performance tests.  Additionally, the Test Engineer will support the maintenance of the data acquisition system in all test lab stands.  Will work in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering and Test Department to ensure compliance on all equipment and connections to ensure accurate data.  Will aid in ensuring proper test set-ups are established for equipment and products.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all testing meets or exceeds Grundfos or other regulatory requirements such as: Hydraulic Institute (HI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Underwriters Laboratory (UL), Factory Mutual (FM), or API standards
  • Validate final data to be error free before submission to Customer Service or Project Manager
  • Direct the rework of non-conforming performance results within guidelines
  • Support all testing equipment is maintained and validated within ISO 17025 standards and work with Quality Department to replace when warranted
  • Document test systems and procedures including proper safe use of all equipment
  • Review test requirements prior to performance testing to ensure required information, materials and resources are in place to provide no interruptions to testing schedule and throughput
  • Assist with test facility upgrades including specification, procurement and validation of hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot and repair test system as required
  • Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Communication, Internal Controls, etc.)
  • Ability to create and update coding utilizing Lab VIEW, Visual Basic for Applications and Excel programs used to gather data during testing
  • As required, support Customer or Witness performance test either with direct technical support, calibration records or certified technical data.
  • Assist with supervisory functions when shift supervisor is not present including issues management, and escalation     

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written skills; able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team; A strong work ethic is highly important including multitasking ability.  Fluent at reading, speaking, & writing English, including technical vocabulary
  • Experience in laboratory testing, preferably with hydraulic components
  • Capable of mobility in a manufacturing environment.   Able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Able to stand or sit for prolonged periods
  • Ability to read and understand shop/blue prints drawings
  • Experience in Lab View, Visual Basic for Applications and Excel programming and implementation a plus.
  • Basic understanding of fluid hydraulics

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university; or related degree.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a related field
  • Experience with LabView, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP and Catia is desired.
