Assembler 2nd Shift

General Summary:

Following a bill of material, using a prescribed assembly sequence from standard prints and verbal instructions: performs complete assembly of all pumps submersible motors, cable assemblies, grinders,  wet and dry pit pumps, etc.; does preliminary assembly of check valves; completes all sub-assemblies as directed. Uses a variety of hand and power tools, completes inspections to determine proper parts and fit. Assembles pumps to bases and couples them to the drive motor. Installs completed pumps into test piping, couples with the motor, and connects the power for performance testing. Is responsible for verifying the completed assembly is in compliance with any and all engineering specifications as detailed in the sales order packet.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews order face, prints and data sheets.
  • Makes a visual check of parts.
  • Places bushings and bearings into position.
  • Installs shafts, couplings, etc.
  • Aligns indexes and/or bolt circles to mating piece parts prior to bolt up.
  • Checks proper alignment using miscellaneous indicators and gauges.
  • Insert and tightens bolts, nuts, washers, etc., as needed. Complies with specified torque requirements.
  • Performs hydrostatic tests on equipment as required.
  • Wires motors to a specific voltage per the sales order face.
  • Makes final check of completed assembly.
  • Uses judgment throughout assembly to make adjustments, such as filing, scrapping, re-reaming, shaft key alterations, spacers, shims, etc., as needed to ensure proper fit.
  • Qualified assemblers, specifically selected by Management, will use a torch to heat parts for the assembly and disassembly of components when deemed necessary by design or due to rust and corrosion.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Tools required to perform this job: Hand tools including wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, files, grinders, impact wrenches and sockets for fasteners from 1/4'” to 1-1/2” typically.

The equipment assembled is pumps and related equipment which the components weigh 5 lbs. to 15,000 lbs. the assembly is manual with the assistance of cranes, hoists and lift trucks for heavy lifting.
