CAD Designer

General Summary:

This is a full-time position to support the Engineering department in drafting and modelling components and assemblies. This work supports product enhancements, incoming orders, and other general product maintenance for design documents.



Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Develop working knowledge and understanding of department-related ISO procedures, policies, design guidelines, work instructions and associated tools to ensure effectiveness and consistency in all work.


  1. Adhere to all record-keeping practices within the department.


  1. Create/develop designs for new components and assemblies from concept to finished model/drawing working with the Engineering Team.


  1. Recommend changes for component and/or assembly design to simplify manufacture and improve component compatibility.


  1. Review clearance, tolerance, and interchangeability of components and discuss discrepancies with the engineer.


  1. Apply industry-accepted “best-practice” methods towards the development and modification of all models and drawings where appropriate.


  1. Actively seek-out, promote, and implement improvements related to the creation, modification, and usability of our models and drawings.


  1. Assist with the coordination and management of activities related to the outsourcing of models or drawings, when required.


  1. Exemplify the Grundfos “Values” in all activities and conversations.


  1. Regular collaboration with the Engineering Manager and other members of the Engineering Team as necessary to ensure the on-time completion of all activities.


  1. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.


  1. (Secondary) Translate existing components to a Catia V6 format including 3D component & assembly models and their associated 2D drawings in cooperation with the Product Engineer(s) and other outside sources.


  1. (Secondary) Serve as the go-to-expert in utilization of Catia V6.



Education and Experience:

A minimum 2-year technical degree in CAD Design or equivalent work experience.  Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent a plus.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. A minimum 5 years’ experience in the computer-aided design (modeling) and layout (2D drawings) of mechanical components and assemblies using Catia.
  2. Proficiency in the use of Catia V5 or later.
  3. Experience in utilizing file management systems (Enovia).
  4. Will consider Solidworks experience as well, but prefer Catia
  5. Working knowledge of algebra and geometry.
  6. Proficiency in the use computers for general business logistics (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  7. Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings.
  8. General knowledge of machining & assembly methods, principles, and processes.
  9. Ability to work cooperatively in project/process teams.
  10. Strong organizational skills.
  11. Fluent at reading, speaking, and writing English, including technical vocabulary.



Must be able to maintain a valid US passport.

Must be able to travel both internationally and in the US.
